Art — in the Latte (&Mocha)

So, my friend Fouzi and I went to Barefoot Cafe on Monday for a small class on late art. I need a lot more practice in the matter, as I learned in class, but here are the creations that we were served by the barista as we stayed for a latte and mocha after the class.

Latte art has become for me a symbol of quality. The art itself tells me two very important things about a coffee shop which are:

    1. The coffee shop cares about their product
    2. The barista is trained in making coffee beverages

While on the surface it may appear to be a symbol without much meaning, the very fact that the barista was able to create the art indicates that they have pulled a good shot of espresso with a decent amount of crema and also that the barista has properly steamed the milk. Both of these are not simple tasks and therefore when a barista is able to produce a drink with latte art it’s much more than a visual delight, it’s also a wonderful experience of imbibement.

I am total agreement. Now that I understand what goes into the creation of latte art, I have a much better appreciation for the skill of craft involved.

My foray’s into creating some art of mine own have yet to bear any recognizable fruit, but they will eventually. It just takes more and more practice. I hope that my waistline can take all of the milk I need to consume. 😉

For that reason I should probably stick to cappuccino art.
